Bo Kelly was drafted by the Cobras in the 12th round of the expansion draft, joining his former defensive coordinator from Arizona, Cobras head coach Doug Kay. He was a consistent contributor in Carolina’s first few games, catching a pass and recovering a fumble vs. Florida, rushing for two touchdowns at Los Angeles, making four tackles and recovering another fumble vs. Orlando and grabbing three passes for 26 yards at Tampa Bay. Kelly stepped into the spotlight at Florida after Marrio Grier was injured on the first play of the game, and rushed for a career-high 38 yards on 11 carries. He turned in 40 all-purpose yards in his first start vs. Nashville, and had a sack, a fumble recovery and a rushing touchdown in the Cobras’ near-upset of Orlando. Kelly had his best game of the season against Houston, rushing for 30 yards and two touchdowns, including a fourth quarter 24-yarder, breaking up a pass and making a vital block on Adrian Lunsford’s kick return touchdown. He finished the season as the Cobras’ second leading rusher with 116 yards, and his seven rushing touchdowns tied him for the team lead. AFL Career 1999: Played in 10 games for the Rattlers...
