RALEIGH, N.C. (April 4, 2000)- The Carolina Cobras took one step closer to the start of their inaugural season today by signing quarterback Carlos Garay and defensive specialist Shino Prater. Carolina will debut in the
Triangle on Thursday, April 6, 7:30 p.m. with a preseason contest against the New England Sea Wolves at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.

Garay is a two-year Arena Football League veteran and should bring a strong knowledge of the game to the Cobras.  He began his career in 1997 with the
New Jersey Red Dogs and played last season for the Grand Rapids Rampage.  Garay, who played collegiately at Hofstra, has spent most of his two-year
AFL career (1997 & 1999) as a backup totaling 259 passing yards (21 of 37) with six touchdowns and two interceptions.  He also rushed 12 times for 41
yards and a score.

Prater (5-8, 175) joins the Cobras as a rookie free agent after spending the 1999 season in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Hamilton TigerCats.  He helped anchor a TigerCats club that won the 1999 Grey Cup.  Prater, who played collegiately at Penn State, signed as a free agent with the Tennessee Titans in 1998 but was released prior to the start of the season.

The Cobras (0-1 in the preseason) will battle the New England Sea Wolves (0-1 in the preseason) on Thursday in the preseason finale for both clubs. Carolina lost at Albany 65-27 last week and New England fell to Milwaukee, 49-42.

In other roster moves, Carolina claimed defensive specialist Rodney Mazion off waivers from Milwaukee and waived WR/LB Jeff Thomas.
