Cobras
Career
2000
Alan Campos came to the
Cobras from Tampa Bay by way of New England on expansion draft day, going
to the Sea Wolves as part of a deal for QB Mike Perez, then coming to Carolina
for the team’s ninth-round pick. Campos was featured in a picture
on the front page of The News & Observer after the Cobras’ first
home preseason game, but he was not activated in the regular season until
week 6 after Marrio Grier was injured. His 20 yards rushing led the
team vs. Nashville. He also had three receptions and two tackles
in that game. Campos had a season-high 41 yards rushing on six carries
against the Sea Wolves, but had perhaps his best game of the season vs.
Houston, when he recorded his first AFL touchdown on a two-yard run and
forced a fumble on defense. He was deactivated for two games after
Bobbie Cotten joined the team, then returned in a backup role for the season’s
final game. Campos finished the season tied for the team lead with
seven rushing touchdowns.
