Cobras
Career
2000
Carlos Garay signed with
the Cobras after UNC alumnus Michael Thomas played poorly in the team's
first preseason game at Albany. Garay, who worked as the holder on
PAT and FG attempts all season, saw his first action at quarterback vs.
Orlando on 4/37 after Jim Arellanes was benched. He was a perfect
11 of 11 passing and also had a 23-yard scramble in the nationally-televised
loss. Garay also came in for Arellanes in losses to Tampa Bay and
Florida in the next two weeks, before getting his first start of the season
in the 5/26 loss to Nashville, where he threw four TDs and four INTs.
The acquisition of Fred McNair from Florida ended his starting chances,
though he appeared doing mop-up duty in a loss to Milwaukee and a win over
New Jersey, both blowouts.
